Healthy spices: the magical cardamom


Cardamom is a spice which offers us plenty of benefits and energy: I consider it as a wonderful ally. Since when I discovered it, I cannot forget its flavor. This spice is really able to add a great and strong aroma to your dishes. Cardamom comes from the seeds of several plants of the ginger family: this is why it is aroma can be considered pungent.

Since ever it has been used for medical purposes, because of its big amount of vitamins and properties. Could you imagine that Cardamom is the third expensive spice in the world, after saffron and vanilla?


This wonderful spice is native to the Indian subcontinent and Indonesia. Over the years, it started to be spread and today we can easily find it in other countries like Guatemala, Nicaragua and Tanzania.

You can use cardamom in several recipes, both sweet and savoury. It is very popular in the Indian cooking, but I discovered that it is also part of many Scandinavian recipes, especially in sweet pastry. So you can imagine how much I was happy when I realized it? I still remember that amazing flavor when I was enjoying some sweets in Sweden. It has been love at first sight with the magical cardamom.

One recipe: Cardamom, walnuts and figs jam

(500 gr. figs, 100 gr. walnuts, 5 cardamom pods, 100 gr. brown sugar, juice of 1 lemon)

A magical delicious jam is what we need. I am using to eat jam every morning. The fact that I do love breakfast it is not a surprise anymore. How to make this delightful jam? It is quite easy, since all you need is to make jam: just take all figs and the sugar and put in a pan Then cook them for one hour. You can add in it some cardamom pods and some walnuts. Your big jam jar is ready to delight your upcoming days!
