Healthy spices: Turmeric, your magical ally

Time to continue the magical trip to discover several spices coming from different corners of the world, in order to get to know their secret power

After talking about ginger (check it out in here the amazing power of ginger), today we are going to explore more about another wonderful spice, which belongs to the ginger family and, surprise of the surprises, it is super healthy as the ginger one. Since when I discovered it I started to use it as many times as I can, mainly combined with some savory dish. Wondering which spice? Turmeric.

I tried it out some years ago and I was surprised by the taste it can add to your plate, besides its magical yellow color. From that moment on, turmeric powder is most of the time on my table. You can use it while cooking or just adding it raw at the end in order to dress your dish, the result will be the same: excellent. I have been hearing plenty of times about its qualities and benefits that it can ensure to our body, so I could not wait to write down about this magnificent spice.

When in doubt, instead of adding lots of salt, feel free to dress your dishes with turmeric. You will get a powerful, colorful and healthy dish. Super guaranteed.

Coming from the same family of the ginger, turmeric (which is also called Indian saffron or the golden spice) is native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia.

The amazing turmeric powder has a bitter and pepper-like flavor, with a pungent aroma: it is just perfect when you want to dress your dishes without adding any salt or sauces. It has been used since centuries also in medicine since lots of studies have underlined the importance of turmeric.

I mean, what is better than combining taste and healthy? Nothing.

One recipe: zucchini and potatoes with turmeric

(2 pieces of zucchini, 2 potatoes , ½ cauliflower, 1 head of garlic, 2 spoons of olive oil, 1 little spoon of turmeric)

You know how much I like trying out new recipes in my free time. I like combining several kind of spices and ingredients coming from different sides of the world. This is the case.

I do love vegetables. I do love turmeric. So imagine what? Of course I put them together to check out if they can fit together. And yes, I survived.

It was absolutely great. As you know I want to keep things very easy and simple. What I did was just cut down in small pieces 2 zucchini, 2 potatoes and half cauliflower and put them into the pan with olive oil and garlic.
Leave it on the stove for 20 minutes and then adding 1 little spoon turmeric powder 5 minutes before turning it off.

This is just perfect if you want to cook something easy and fast, healthy and not heavy at all. Turmeric gives an extra delicious taste to the vegetables.

Turmeric? Your secret ally in life!
